One of the most difficult but rewarding stories to write was a profile of a Palo Alto High School cross-country runner with diabetes. Writing the profile required learning about both the student's experience living with diabetes and her personality, hobbies, and hopes for the future: her life outside of her diabetes. Ultimately, the profile showed that the student was more than just her disease. This story won 5th place in the Sports Story of the Year contest hosted by the National Scholastic Press Association.
